Euclid’s Algorithm (EA) is a simple process by which you can find out the greatest common factor (GCF) of two numbers by repeatedly subtracting the smaller number from the bigger one. Euclid proved and used it in his series of textbooks, called the ‘Elements’. On my first practicum, I was distraught to find that when I was teaching factorisation by common factor to my year 10s, many of them couldn’t remember their times tables. I couldn’t find any method of getting them to find the GCF between

Investigating Volume Worksheet (5.MD.3) Freebie!

This worksheet is made to be used with snap cubes. The students use 20 snap cubes to create as many rectangular prisms as they can.The activity is geared to help the students make a connection between the chart and the algorithm. It also reinforces the concept that different shapes can have the same volume. This activity is aligned with C.C. 5.MD.3. It can be used for whole group instruction or in a center. To see how I used this worksheet with my class, check out my blog post at Quinnessenti

This is a skill builder that I created to reinforce math skills. I needed something that attacked difficult math problems that weren't intimidating, yet challenging. You will find that the basics of difficult problems are reinforced in these skill builders. I teach a middle school math intervention class in which I focus mainly on rigorous computation and the "why" behind the mathematics. While many teachers push the algorithms, its application to real life settings sets the stage for math in
