Christian Skits for Actors and/or Puppets Skit 2: Whatever Floats Your Boat

In a series of ten lessons, Christian Skits address science from the standpoint of Christian values. Did God really tell Noah to build an ark? Yes, he did. Could it really float and did all the animals fit in the ark? Yes, and with room left over. Dr. Rubenstein, or “Dr. R.” as he is known to young Joey, shares the science behind the ark. The skits can be presented with live actors such as the children themselves, child and parent, child and teacher/tutor, or puppets. There are only two par

This is a fun lab on finding the density of liquids. Students determine the densities of a sugared soda and its diet equivalent in order to identify the "unknown" liquid based on density. Geared toward a Regents Chemistry class, however, it can easily be adapted for Earth Science or any middle school lesson on density.

Density With A Difference. Iron floats in mercury ?

This describes buoyancy in terms of densities. It shows metals floating in liquid mercury and shows how to visualize how much of a floating solid object will be above and below the liquid. 21 pgsPretty much conceptual rather than quantitative.Comments: courtneylantz1@yahoo.com

This beginner experiment explores what substances float, ad which ones sink. It defines the words liquid and solid. There are two pages for the students to complete with predictions and results. This is a lower level experiment and does not require that much writing. Students draw smiley faces and frowns based on their predictions and results. There is also a supply list and an answer key!

Why did it rain on the Mayor's parade?Teach Meteorology, Weather Fronts, and Air Pressure with this high-interest, no-prep digital mystery lab. In "The Barometric Bandit," the town's biggest outdoor gala has been ruined by a freak thunderstorm. Students step into the role of Meteorologists to analyze the data and explain what happened. They must look past the sunny morning forecast and identify the "stealth" signs of the approaching storm. What Your Students Will Do:Analyze Weather Maps: Ident

Density With a Difference.

21pgsDensity is related to how objects float in a liquid as seen with iron floating on mercury. How far into the liquid is related to the density. Surface tension canbe mistaken for buoyancy.

In this fun lab, students discover how submarines can change their density to both sink and float. Using raisins and club soda as a model, see how the change in the amount of air attached to an object can change it's density (more air bubbles cause it be be more buoyant and float- when the air is released, it sinks back down).

Graphing Denisty

We use mass and volume and plot them on a graph making 3 lines. We discuss why something might sink or float due to its density. We graph 3 objects, Water with a density of 1, a pencil with a density of 0.5 and a rock with a density of 2. This could be given to honors Algebra or Earth Science students or be used as guided practice with regular education students. It makes density more real life than just using numbers. It includes using the literal equation D=M/V and also the slope formula. I
