When practicing for fluency using a short passage, record the time for each reading a student completes. There are spots to record three fluency times, and a spot to record how much time the student increased or decreased their time by. This universal sheet works for any type of progress monitoring passage, including Fresh Reads and DIBELS Progress Monitoring stories.

This quiz checks for recognition of six major rivers in the US, the Mississippi, Colorado, Rio Grande, Hudson, and Missouri. It also asks students to label the Rocky Mtns., Appalachian Mtns., and Great Plains.
There are a total of 13 chapters in this book. I choose to split the read aloud into 2 weeks. Chapters 1-6 were read in week 1. Chapters 7-13 were read in week 2. At the end of each week students were given a vocabulary quiz on the chapters that were read and discussed. We practiced the vocabulary words throughout the week.
