Division and Multiplication Code Words Power Point
The most difficult area of math in the upper elementary grades is usually when students have to choose which operation to use to solve a story problem. A key to making sure that your kids don't fall into the trap of choosing the wrong operation lies in making sure that they know code words and situations in which to multiply or divide. This power point has been very effective in helping my students fully grasp what these words mean and how they are applied in real life story type problems.

Oftentimes students have a hard time deciding if they should add or subtract in a word problem. Looking for code words in story problems is the key to understanding what a problem is really asking them to do. This powerpoint has been very effective in my classroom in helping students understand which operation to choose.

Operations Jenga
I use this jeopardy with the color-coded Jenga pieces, which is why the colors are so specific, however, they can easily be changed by changing the color background of the slides. This jeopardy is interactive for smartboard use when the home button is clicked the game returns to the home screen to pick the next topic.
