Pitch and Volume Flashcards 3rd Grade Science

This assignment is perfect for differentiated instruction. Students can record answers in the spaces provided or cut each card and place the answers on the back of each card, thus creating flashcards. Students may quiz themselves with the cards, quiz a partner, or students can use the flashcards during small groups. This activity increased student retention in my classroom and I provided a ziplock bag for students to take the flashcards home so that they could actively engage with their parents.

These adorable cards can be used to play Go Fish in music centers. Kids ask if anyone has a particular character, but then they have to read the rhythm correctly before they take a card from someone. I have also used these in Kagan activities such as Round Robin and Quiz Quiz Trade. Use these iconic rhythm flashcards to help your kindergarten, or early ed, students understand rhythms with words, photos, and terms they understand. I find that students, especially kindergarten and 1st graders, understand rhythm when we are putting it on their bodies. It is easy to understand a quarter note when we use a single step, or walk, and then tip toe as two eighth notes.
