This is an research proven strategy that increase comprehension of academic vocabulary. The teacher gives a casual definition of the vocabulary word with examples, non examples, and descriptors of the word. Then students share their own definition/understanding of the word with a partner. Students share out their created definitions, where the teacher clears up any misconceptions, then students draw an image that represents the meaning to them. Great way to introduce a unit!
