Geometry Challenge Page: Polygon Prefixes & Names

As this worksheet says, while it is true that polygons with greater than 12 sides can be called #-gons (13-gons, 18-gons, 24-gons, 52-gons, etc), there are several prefixes that we can string together to name them in a less lazy fashion. I gave this page to my Honors Geometry students to complete the table of prefixes/names according to memory and patterns in the table. Then, using their table, students gave 9 polygons their "proper" names. Websites I referenced for this table are at the bottom

Available in MS Word format allows for easy formatting to fit your needs. I will post other unit organizers by unit separately.

Simple, easy way for students to brainstorm what they already know about the names of polygons before teaching. I have students spend 2 minutes naming as many as they can and draw. Then, have them pair with a partner to fill in any their partner had that they didn't. I wander the room and give a prize to one or two people who had the most. I display an answer key and lead into discussions about circles being defined as polygons with infinite sides and convex vs. concave polygons. (They soon
