This goes along with the root beer reading activity but this deals with multiplication word problems. I've seen struggles with interpreting word problems. I also left some practice problems dealing with finding the missing numbers and multiplications of threes. Let me know if you have trouble with the downloading and the formatting. From my end it looks fine once downloaded. I'll make a answer later on and re-upload.

This is an engaging hands-on STEM project where students work cooperatively as a group to construct the slowest floating parachute possible. Students are asked to record data on the height and duration of their parachute drop, then use this data to construct and utilize a linear equation. Notes: Supplies you will need include plastic sheeting (I recommend painter's plastic), fishing line, scissors, and a small toy figure (e.g. G.I. Joe toy) to attach the parachute to. You can also include an

Graphing Denisty

We use mass and volume and plot them on a graph making 3 lines. We discuss why something might sink or float due to its density. We graph 3 objects, Water with a density of 1, a pencil with a density of 0.5 and a rock with a density of 2. This could be given to honors Algebra or Earth Science students or be used as guided practice with regular education students. It makes density more real life than just using numbers. It includes using the literal equation D=M/V and also the slope formula. I

Teach, Try, GO! Students partner/pair together and use higher level learning style to become their own instructor. They teach each other, try and compare, and finish with trying a few challenging problems independently. A great activity to free the actual teacher in the room to float and support the students. Perfect for an observation!

I tell my mentoree that one day she woke up and looked out and there were numbers floating in the sky. I think it is a fun way of choosing sums and learning addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. Hope you like it!

String Bean Lab Report

Planting is the perfect unit to do in the spring where you can get everyone excited to take part in science and math! For this observation report, you will need string beans, a bucket of water and unifix cubes. Students will observe what the bean will look like, predict and observe if it sinks or floats, and measure the bean. Students will then draw a picture of their bean at the bottom of the report. After filling out the lab report, my students picked the seeds out of the beans and plant

This activity is a fun way for students to practice basic density calculations (p=m/v) while building in some critical thinking skills as well. Students are provided a series of clues about 7 different colored boxes and students need to determine which of the seven provided masses, volumes, and densities is connected tot hat color box. For example, "The density of water is 1.0 grams per cubic cm. If the orange object was placed in water, it would float." There is a table for students to fil

The "Density of Different Materials" experiment offers teachers a dynamic tool to foster scientific curiosity and critical thinking in their students. By immersing students in hands-on exploration, this experiment allows educators to demonstrate key concepts of mass, volume, and density, while encouraging students to gather data, and draw conclusions. Through this experiment, teachers can provide a tangible connection between theoretical concepts and real-world applications. By measuring and com
