Keep all record of student transportation on this class list! There is a section for bus riders, Car riders, After care, and Additional Info/Arrangements. I keep a copy for both myself and for my substitute file!

These homework bingo choice boards are a great alternative to printing out worksheets for homework. Send home a monthly choice board for your students and collect it at the end of the month.
The activities on the board are interactive, hands on, and come from 1st grade common core standards. Reading, writing, math, science, and social studies subjects are all included. Below is a list of most of the topics/skills that are covered on this board:

I struggle often with finishing a math lesson and being unsure of who really understood the skill and who is still struggling. I am now creating 'exit slips' for the end of math lessons. There is 1 problem on each slip as well as a 'self assessment' question at the bottom. The choices are:
This problem was really hard.
This problem was a little hard.
This problem was easy.
The standards are labeled at the top of each slip. I hope these are as helpful to you as they are me with assessing studen
Morning work, what I call 'short shots', is an important routine to set up in the classroom. I made this as an introduction to this routine, with simple instructions that should be easy for students to follow that first week of school! There are 2 problems for each morning- sentences with errors for students to re-write with corrections. Included is a 'short shot quiz' to give to your students on Friday to asses the skills covered in the short shots. Check out my store for more rigorous 'short s
2 weeks of morning work ('short shots') that address common core standards in math and literacy. On Fridays, there is a 'short shot quiz' to assess the skills addressed in the morning work throughout the week.
After a long summer break, there are many skills students need to review at the beginning of the year before we dive in. However, the curriculum often doesn't allow any time for review with our students. I created this packet to QUICKLY review handwriting and letter/sounds with my students in the beginning of the year. Each page covers 2 letters of the alphabet. The directions scaffold the students to independence:
1. Trace the uppercase and lowercase letters.
2. Write the uppercase and lowercas
Using cards as a way to rotate during daily 5 is a great way for students to keep track of the activities they have already completed, and what they still have left to do. Students place a card in the pocket chart before each rotation. I hope this method helps make transitions during daily 5 easier for your class!
I made this for our ocean animal unit. It is a passage with information about starfish along with comprehension questions. The directions ask that they highlight the text evidence that helped them find their answers.
This is a fun way to teach adjectives in your classroom! I allowed my kids to chew a piece of gum and write down words in the bubbles to describe it. They can cut the bubble gum pieces out and glue them into the machine. My class really enjoyed this activity and I hope yours do too!

An activity to go along with If You Give a Moose a Muffin. The muffins identify the causes and the students write (or illustrate) in the effects of each cause from the story.
How do you hold your students accountable during their read to self time? I require my students to complete ONE of these activities DAILY for a book of their choice (that meets their reading level ability). These are great to help make sure your students are not only reading during read to self time, but they are using comprehension strategies as well.
Responses included:
--Main characters- Identify the 3 main characters from the text. Describe your favorite character and why.

This is a verb ending activity I created for my class as homework. Great practice for the CVCCing and CVCCed words. Could be used as homework, a minilesson, station work, or an assessment.
Entry/exit slips are great ways to check for understanding after your lessons. I usually like to give these to my students before I teach the standard, to get an idea of where they are and any misconceptions they might already have. Then, after teaching, I will give these same problems to them again to see who improved and who still needs more help. At the end of each sheet, there is a self reflection question for the students to answer. The choices are : This problem was easy. This problem was
3 weeks of 'short shots'. This is morning work that students can work on as they arrive each day. There are 4 problems (mon-thurs) on each page. Students work on 1 problem each morning. Each problem contains a sentence with errors as well as math problems and literacy questions. Common core standards are listed under the problems. There is a quiz provided to use on Friday mornings as an assessment for skills addressed in the morning work for the week.

This is a grammar homework assignment I sent home. It has the students identify contractions, apply rules of grammar (drop the E to add ing) to add endings to verbs, and use their words in a sentence. Great for homework, stations, or assessments.
This is a grammar activity I sent home for homework. Students use a word bank to help create a list of compound words. The second section asks students to use a conjunction to join together sentences. The final section asks students to create contractions. Can be used for homework, assessment, or in workstations.
