This is a short lesson to review improper fractions and mixed numbers, and then to use those numbers in division problems. I used the context of making the keys of a marimba (xylophone-like instrument) to allow students to work through these problems. The lesson includes links to videos of children playing marimbas, a warm-up, the lesson, and an exit ticket question. This can also be used as a formative assessment to help determine students' abilities with these topics.

This is a life skills math activity that requires the use of play money (dollars and change). Students will count out the beginning amount into their wallet (we used a box drawn on the desk). From that amount they are to give the cashier exact change for the products purchased. Finally, they will count the money remaining in their wallet and record the amount on the worksheet. This Multiplication Notebook is a useful complement to your math curriculum. Students will have ownership over their learning - literally! They can take this notebook home and show it to their parents, have their parents quiz them or quiz their parents (or siblings!). This notebook is half-sized and includes pages for writing out the times tables 0-10 but could be used with any times tables as the numbers are left blank. So feel free to use it with higher numbers.
