Solving for the nth Term in Quadratics Using a Chart Technique

Created by
Ellen Beccia
This is a way for student to find the nth term of a quadratic using a systematic algorithm that they usually find (not only) less complicated than guess and check, but also fun. Many feel that it feels like they are solving a puzzle. They find first and second differences through a chart they fill in, and then create a second chart to use their findings and actually formulate the nth term statement.

Drawing with Coordinates

In the Drawing with Coordinates activity, students will create their own designs by plotting coordinate pairs on paper. They trade their list of coordinate pairs with a partner, who attempts to recreate the original image to see how accurate their algorithm was. Students then enter the same list of ordered pairs into the Coordinate Drawer web app and explore how changing points and reflections affect their designs. 8th grade Pythagorean Theorem Power Point Presentation

Incorporate technology into your lesson with this PowerPoint! This 20-slide presentation is a basic explanation of the Pythagorean concept. It uses the "area" argument approach and allows students to use self-created manipulatives to establish understanding of the Theorem. At the end, it shows the algorithm for the Theorem. It defines essential vocabulary (hypotenuse, right triangle, etc.), gives examples, has a guided practice question, and an independent practice question. It is Common Co
