I love this activity for grades 2-5! I currently use it as a Makerspace activity and our kids really enjoy decorating it once they are finished. In the classroom, I would find this beneficial as a functional text lesson, either guided for the littles, or independent as a small group center for older students. The slides include images and directions for each origami step, as well as examples of ways to decorate the bookmarks when finished.

This activity was designed to help 5th graders with their research skills, while using Google and Databases. Students have to "Spot the Fake" information about some notable Americans from the 1900s: Barbara Johns, Maggie Walker, Harry Byrd, Oliver Hill, Arthur Ashe, A Linwood Holton, and Douglas Wilder. In our elementary school library, our 1st - 5th students do self check in. Once they check in their books, they sort them into the correct genre category on our return cart. These signs help our students better identify where their books belong. This lesson is intended for 1st graders to learn and/or review how to ask questions based on photos.
