I have taught 7th, 8th, and high school math for 3 years now. I am certified in secondary and middle grades, ESL, and I am currently working on my Masters in Math Teaching
This is a guided activity, individual practice, skills showcase, and assessment. It covers measuring angles in polygons, adding angles to create specific angle measures, and then actually measuring angles (you can estimate). Materials needed: pattern blocks
This file contains 3 quizzes. One regular quiz, a modified one, and an advanced one. Each quiz has a key included (pg 4-6 of the document). Some material was borrowed from various curriculum, but I compiled and created this quiz.
Topics assessed:
Pythagorean theorem
Corollaries of the Pythagorean Theorem
Pythagorean Triples
Word problems involving Pythagorean Theorem/ Triples
Print this on card stock, cut out the cards. Have students shuffle them and lay them out face down. They need to flip them over two at a time and look for matches.
Covers angle pairs formed when parallel lines are cut by a transversal, as well as linear pairs, vertical angles, complementary angles, supplementary angles, parallel lines, perpendicular lines, and slope.
Can be used as an informal assessment to check for understanding.
This puzzle provides either a radius or an apothem and identifies the regular polygon. The student then has to match it with the correct area. To make this simpler you can erase (or white out before copying) the border of the puzzle. Keep an uncut version as the key.

This activity allows students to practice synthetic and long division. Can easily be used as a group work, round robin, think pair share, or any other informal assessment.
I use this in my geometry class as their first quiz. It covers the undefinable terms, segment addition postulate, angle addition postulate, linear pairs, and vertical angles.

Teaching style
I prefer to do as little direct instruction as possible. I think that kids learn best from doing, and from experiences and discussions with their peers.
