About the store
I have taught math in both Texas and Colorado for 12 years. In those 12 years, I have taught from grade 5 - 8. Seven of those years, I taught 8th grade Algebra 1. All 12 years where in a Title 1 school, where most of the students I had were multiple years below grade level. The last 4 years of my teaching career, I taught my grade level math class as well as the 6th, 7th and 8th-grade Algebra 1 Honors classes. I had A LOT of preps!! So I understand the frustrations that come along with teaching math.

This is an educational financial literacy unit to teach students how to balance a budget and write checks. In addition to that, the students learn about income, how to fill out a W2 as well as the pros and cons involved with credit cards vs debit cards. Students work in pairs to work out bills for a fictional family that is all created though-out the game. Students learn how to become financially stable and ways to get out of debt real quick. After the bills have been set, the students will comp

I searched everywhere for a regular polygon lesson that has the students cut them into triangles so they can actually see why the formula area = p/2 x a is the way it is. I couldn't find anything. I made this free because it's not really a lesson. It is a supplemental activity to do along with your lesson. I also have a computer program that allows me to make regular shapes on graph paper (my Cricut machine of all things). The lesson plan that I attached to this is exactly how I would teach my

This is a powerpoint where students have to convert from word problems to an equation. Your students need to be able to convert between fraction, decimal and percent before using these problems. If you need a detailed scripted lesson plan for this powerpoint, you can find it in my shop. I would spend about 25 - 35 minutes on this lesson, in a direct teach in the form of a "thinking out loud"

Teaching style

I am mostly a direct teaching type of style with tons of scaffolding. That is where you will see a lot of my lessons are powerpoints with just problems, where I would teach/talk my way through the lesson. While some teachers like myself, just needed the problems, there are teachers out there that do need help with how to teach a specific lesson. I make my lesson plans where you could literally read them like a script. However, I had extensive professional development on PBL, and brought it into my classroom for two years. That is why you will also find some PBL projects that I literally made and designed on my own, and completed multiple years in my classroom.

My own education history

My Bachelor's is in Mathematics 4 - 6 I am one class shy of graduating with my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. I have had 3 students teachers, that have grown into very successful math teachers themselves. I have also mentored 2 teachers in their first year of teaching, where they have also become very successful math teachers. My favorite part of teaching was helping other teachers. I even ventured out into other subjects other than math.
