Experience

I have been teaching Special Education for 30 years. In those 30 years I have been in a variety of classrooms. I have been a Co-teacher in an Inclusion classroom, Resource Room Teacher, Consultant Teacher, and Self Contained Classroom Teacher. I love working with children and helping them step out of their comfort zone while giving them hope that anything is possible. Teaching style

I am very animated and enjoy bringing fun into learning. I also love integrating technology within my lessons while making them interactive and using many different resources to deliver instruction. I tend to be a hands on and visual learner and try my best to reach all of the diverse needs of my students with a multi-modal approach. I also get my students up and moving.

Awards & shining teacher moments

The rewards I have received over the years are from all of the wonderful students' with whom I have had the honor of teaching. Some of the biggest accomplishments I am proud of was starting a self contained classroom in grades 6-8 from scratch and now we have it k-12. I also was an integral part of introducing inclusion to our school and now we have it k-12.

My own education history

I am certified as a Reading Specialist K-12, Special Education Teacher Pre-K to 21 and Elementary Education Teacher K-6. I was also an Instructional Associate for BOCES and have worked with children from Pre K-18 and all ranges of disabilities. Some of my strengths are in behavior management and working with Asperger and Autistic children. I also am very comfortable in working with ADHD and CAP students as well. My favorite teaching position was my self contained classroom, because I would have the same students' for 3 years and you really have an opportunity to see the growth!

Additional biographical information

Using programs, such as Word, Power-Point, Smart Software, and many more enables me to create unique lessons that are engaging and more appealing. Creating, modifying, and adapting lessons are my strength. My art background helps when I need to be creative in lessons. :) I can make interactive lessons on smart boards as well and they are wonderful for observation lessons because they include all you need right in the presentation. I create review games on Kahoot, Quizlet, and My own game that I created by scratch! Coming soon will be Science and Social Studies lessons, Modified Reading Units that align with Reading Street for grades 2, 3, 4, and 5 and other reading series. All items align with the common core! SLOs in math k-5 and so much more! The options are limitless!!
