About the store
I am a sixth grade teacher! I began my teaching career in a third grade setting, and moved up to sixth grade when an opening came because of my love of math. I absolutely love working with the upper grades because the kids come with such unique personalities. I love that they have their favorite subjects, and I love that I get to open a new world of favorites to them as well. I love making math fun for my students, and I love helping them see that school is awesome.

Experience

I am a sixth grade teacher! I began my teaching career in a third grade setting, and moved up to sixth grade when an opening came because of my love of math. I absolutely love working with the upper grades because the kids come with such unique personalities. I love that they have their favorite subjects, and I love that I get to open a new world of favorites to them as well. I love making math fun for my students, and I love helping them see that school is awesome.

Teaching style

Four words: Cooperative and Active Learning. Finding the balance in a classroom can be difficult, but I believe that there is a place for everything. Much learning can be done when students get a chance to move around and bounce ideas off with a partner. Students work in groups, partners, trios, (pretty much any group size) daily. I also believe that there must be a time for individual work. The key is the balance, and that is an ongoing, daily challenge. :)

My own education history

I graduated with a BS in Elementary Education. I began my collegiate studies in the mathematics field, preparing for a math or physics education degree. I love math, and my students have grown to enjoy it as well! I have completed my arts integration endorsement, and I'm constantly amazed by how much it makes students LOVE learning! I recently had a student tell me he'd start coming in on Saturdays if I taught an art class. #teacherwin

Additional biographical information

I will eat pretty much any fruit, and my students know that the key to my heart is via watermelon, strawberries, smoothies, apples, grapes and Cutie oranges. Come visit me at 6thgrademarksthespot.blogspot.com!
