Thinkmark - Read and Respond

Created by

Two thing that always frustrated me with read and responds were first, that they never really did a good job of showing me what the student understood about the book they were reading. Second, was that the paper frequently was lost by the student or parent. some years ago I decided to do something about both problems and developed this Think Mark. Its essentially a comprehensive summary of a students reading done on a paper that is also the students book mark.

About the store

Experience

I've taught for over 30 years in Private and public schools both in California and Oregon. For the past 20 years I have taught literacy in low income Title 1 schools. I believe strongly that early literacy is the foundation for the future success of my students.

Teaching style

My teaching style is fluid from situation to situation and even from student to student. However I tend to gravitate toward facilitation of a students own discovery or as a coach for students that are on the right track but need more encouragement. However for some students and in some instances I can be a very good authoritarian or lecturer if the content, situation or students requires that of me.

Awards & shining teacher moments

* Graduated with Honors from Portland State University * Awarded Student choice Teacher of the year at my school in 2008 * Member of Development team to create a one on one schoolwide unitive.

Additional biographical information

Most Teachers can trace their purpose for teaching to one inspirational person or moment. My person was Mr. Towle. He was my English teacher in High School. I was inspired by his character and ability to inspire his students. The moment that changed my life was the day I was caught skipping school and retuned to campus. He met me at the gate and stopped me. You once said you wanted to teach. being a teacher starts here for you. but only if you show up. He walked away and I thought about what he said and entered the campus. I never skipped school again and to this day I am rarely absent because of the example not showing up would sets for my students.
