Writing paper with built-in R.A.C.E.S. (Restate the question, Answer the question, Cite the text, Explain your evidence, and Summarize) rubric for student self-assessment. This is the standard writing paper in my classroom, and has been wildly successful with student self-assessment, along with learning about what CCSS they are writing to achieve. I've been teaching this strategy from first grade, all the way through eighth grade.
It’s time to have fun creating a very unusual bird. As a family, disguise Tom Turkey so that he won’t be eaten for Thanksgiving! You may choose to dress your turkey as a doctor, an astronaut, a farmer, a cheerleader, a ballerina, a princess, football player, a clown, etc. Be creative and use any materials you want and have at home. Then write a letter as your turkey in disguise to convince the Farmer Fred to not serve him for dinner! Great Persuasive writing activity! This can be easily modified
