Slides: Existential Symbolism in Art

Academic Andi
This Google Slides file has 39 slides of background information and examples (from the Wikimedia Commons) of visual symbols, iconography, memento mori, and vanitas. It is an excellent introduction to the concepts. Additionally, I have included several slides with discussion questions throughout the slideshow in order to increase engagement with whole group discussions, as well as a slide at the end that invites students to choose from three questions to respond to. (The choice seems to improve

This slideshow provides an overview on the Harlem Renaissance, including descriptions of important leaders, the events leading up to the movement, a look into the concept of cultural representation, and questions to aid in deeper thought. ** I also have this slideshow included in my Harlem Renaissance mini unit that I use before my Reclaiming Cultural Experiences creative project.**

There are six different choice board activity options involving Impressionism, allowing students to choose to explore the components that interest them most. I have included activity descriptions, a rubric, and fun templates for each option. Almost everything is created and editable in Google Docs/Slides. I have used this Choice Board online with my high school Art 1 students following my Impressionism: A Brief Introduction resources and before our culminating unit discussion. I have also use

This creative assignment invites students to learn about four photography/art composition tips ( worm's eye view, bird's eye view, framing, and rule of thirds) while demonstrating their knowledge through their own original photos. There is also a section to confirm that their photos are original by asking them to insert three photos of themselves with their subject matter. ( just being proactive here...) The informative Google Slides template can be copied by each student and submitted with th

Reclaiming Cultural Experience: DISTANCE LEARNING CREATIVE PROJECT (no prep!)

This creative project could span a week or longer, depending on how you structure it. It follows my Harlem Renaissance mini unit or slideshow/discussion well, and can easily be added as a creative component to any unit or lesson on cultural diversity and representation. I used this with my students in an online asynchronous setting, but could easily use them for in-person instruction as well. Witnessing Perseverance: Short Eye Drawing Activity

This is essentially a 30-minute activity that builds confidence (especially in drawing) and skills in persevering. Students do four quick guided drawing activities, drawing a different eye each time. Their final product on the handout shows proof of rapid growth more often than not, and students see positive results of their persistence and willingness to try.

FREE Weekly Distance Learning Slide Template - WINTER THEME

I've started using weekly slide decks with the same layout each time for my virtual classes. It keeps a sense of routine and order, and I post them with links and videos for the kids to refer back to throughout the term. I change up the colors/backgrounds every few weeks to keep things fun for the kids (and myself), but here is my winter one! The blank slides with no text are at the end, so you can do with them what you'd like. Let me know what you think! :)

As a passionate lifelong learner myself, I strive to instill that magic in others-- students and educators alike. I post a varied assortment of materials but they are always created and used with that goal in mind. I invite you to take a look around, message me with any questions and product requests, and provide helpful feedback. **Note that some products may have my old store name (Lens&Letter) rather than my current store name (Academic Andi) as I gradually update product formatting.
