The Lost People of the World: A Refugee Article Project

This project was designed as a supplement to the novel A Long Walk to Water, but it can also be used without the text being read. In this unit, students will research a current world conflict that has led to a refugee crisis. Then, they will research the life of a real refugee who has been impacted by that crisis. After researching, students will write an informational article to synthesize the important information they found, as well as bring the story of a refugee to life. This product inclu

Experience

I am a middle school teacher with 7 years of experience with 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Although I teach primarily ELA, I also have experience with SS and more general Humanities content. I love middle schoolers, and helping them grow during the turbulent middle school years is incredibly rewarding.

Teaching style

I believe that high expectations with adequate support is the best way to truly help students succeed. I would call myself a "no-nonsense nurturer" because I hold students accountable for their actions while helping them learn and grow into the versions of themselves that they can be proud of.

My own education history

I have a BA in English, an MA in English for ELA Teachers, and my teaching license.

Additional biographical information

I love reading, my cat, and helping other teachers!
