About the store
I started my journey in education when I was in the 6th grade. I fell in love with working with the children who were in the special education pre school class. After many years as a peer tutor, I obtained a degree in special education which has taken me on a path teaching across many settings and grades to my most recent work as a consulting teacher. This has allowed me to work not only with children, but to also work with teachers and para educators who serve children every day. I have been privileged to teach not only children but also provide instruction to school staff, parents and present at local conferences.

Experience

I started my journey in education when I was in the 6th grade. I fell in love with working with the children who were in the special education pre school class. After many years as a peer tutor, I obtained a degree in special education which has taken me on a path teaching across many settings and grades to my most recent work as a consulting teacher. This has allowed me to work not only with children, but to also work with teachers and para educators who serve children every day. I have been privileged to teach not only children but also provide instruction to school staff, parents and present at local conferences.

Teaching style

My teaching style has been described as structured and creative. I believe that ALL children can learn. I also believe that each person involved in a child's learning plan is an integral part of the recipe of success for the child. My style of teaching and advocating for children is child centered and individualized. In special education you learn quickly that each child will learn at their own pace and with carefully planned supports, instruction, and reinforcement.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have been awarded the Teacher of the Year award when I was teaching as a special education teacher. As a consulting teacher, while there are no specific rewards or honors in this area, I considered each email, phone call, or comment received by a parent, teacher, administrator, or student my award and my honor.

My own education history

Master degree in Special Education from Nova Southeastern University. Bachelor Degree in Special Education from Gonzaga University

Additional biographical information

It is my love of teaching and learning that motivates and encourages me to continue in education. It is my goal to advocate for children. My role has included direct teacher, coach, advocate, and coordinator to support this goal.
