Since there were zero resources on teaching the Persuasive Genre that actually matched the learning objectives, I created one. It is very extensive and took me about 3.5 hours to create. I embedded media literacy as well.
It includes 41 3-D slides that cover:
Overview of the Features of Persuasive Text
Reader Strategies to help analyze Persuasive Text
3 Relationships of Ideas used in the Persuasive Genre
3 Techniques used in the Persuasive Genre
Embedded Media Literacy
Text Examples of
Tic-Tac-Toe Choice Board for the Genre Legends when I taught third grade. The kids loved having free choice. I also incorporated activities that include the picture books: Legend of the Bluebonnet and John Henry. Feel free to substitute any article in the box that refers to a Scholastic News article.
I created this rubric for Reading teachers who give their students the classic "Book Box Project" to display their knowledge of a book. You can find the directions and format for the Book Box report all over the internet. If you would like me to upload mine, I will, just message me. I hope you enjoy this "freebie!"
