My approach to teaching is based on the belief that all students have a great capacity to learn and an innate curiosity that need only be fostered to drive engagement with learning.
In my classroom, students are equipped to achieve (through modeling and practice) and challenged to excel (through the development of higher order thinking). As an English teacher, I want students to develop the skills necessary to effectively use English as a means of communication, learning, reflection and expression. Also, I want students to critically appraise the role of English as a conduit of culture and to appreciate its capacity to provide personal and social enrichment. As a history teacher, I want my students to draw connections between the past and today, and to recognize the historical threads that are intricately woven into the tapestry of our contemporary political, social and economic spheres.
I facilitate learning by preparing engaging lessons, utilizing a variety of instructional techniques, and tailoring lessons for specific needs.
