Teaching is my second career...and I'm so glad that I found my way into the classroom! Since 2016 I have been teaching math and science to 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders. I work with a wide range of students: gifted and accelerated, special needs, basic skills, and ESL. Prior to getting my teaching certifications, I spent a year substituting in local districts across all grades - from K to 12. It was at this time that I realized that Middle School is my sweet spot!

Drag and Drop Gallery Walk: Multiply and Divide Fractions

Students will practice working with fractions in this activity. They will need to recognize when a fraction can be simplified - or when they can cross cancel prior to multiplication. With 16 expressions and 11 solutions, students will have a few tiles that are not matched up. The mismatched tiles are common mistakes students make when dividing fractions. They will know they made a mistake because they will either come to a dead end, or get the "end" tile too soon. This activity is translat

Math Fantasy Football and Math Bowl

Perfect Back to School Activity! Finding an activity that has 100% buy in is tough. Telling students that they have to look up data, read tables, and do math calculations in their heads is always met with groans and mumbles. I’ve struggled with this every year EXCEPT during football season. My Math Fantasy Football unit has been my go-to activity from the beginning of my teaching career. Over the years it has grown into an 6 month activity that ends with a class Math Bowl on Super Bowl F

Experience

Teaching is my second career...and I'm so glad that I found my way into the classroom! Since 2016 I have been teaching math and science to 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders. I work with a wide range of students: gifted and accelerated, special needs, basic skills, and ESL. Prior to getting my teaching certifications, I spent a year substituting in local districts across all grades - from K to 12. It was at this time that I realized that Middle School is my sweet spot!

Teaching style

I try and provide a nurturing classroom where my students are able to explore math and science through games and hands-on activities. We do puzzles, group projects, have a fantasy football unit, play vocabulary games, and display our artwork in the classroom and hallways. I try to make class fun and less intimidating.

My own education history

I have a BS in Marketing from University of Scranton and an MBA from Regis University. I earned my teaching credentials for Middle School Math through Rutgers' Alternate Route program. In 2020, I went back to college with a focus on Science, earning my Middle School Science credentials in 2021. When I got my MBA I didn't think I'd ever go back to school... and here I am, going "back to school" every day.

Additional biographical information
