This assignment "Understanding Vocabulary" is great for any subject. Through my PowerPoint and the exercises, students will learn skills and components to better help them decipher and understand Vocabulary words that they may not know. I used this with my homeroom class and adapted a lesson for English, but I originally made it because science teachers mentioned that students need strategies to better understand more complex jargon. This lesson teaches strategies for students to help better und

I made this lesson (a little help from AI for the applied parts) because I wanted my students to stop citing "Google" for every source and to use Google as a search engine instead of a source. Students will watch the first five minutes of this video and explore the use of Google as well as learn about the common ways Google will manipulate the search engine filters to adjust to one's interests.

If you are teaching Julius Caesar and want to give your students an introduction to the play (and a little introduction into Shakespeare), this will be a great source for you. It covers not only background info about the play and history behind Julius Caesar, but focuses on some key skills (rhetorical appeals) that students will be using throughout the course of the play. Note: This includes the webquest and the slides presentation that goes with it.

Students will learn about both MLA and APA citations, take notes through my slides presentation and video, as well as practice citing three sources (book, video, website) for both formats. This would be a good activity to start before a research project because students can choose the topic and already have three sources after they complete the practice. I put a lot of time and effort into these, so they are very detailed and direct. Hopefully these assignments will make the process as easy as p

About the store

Experience

I am a teacher of six years. I first taught in Connecticut for three years for various schools and have taught in Florida the past three years. I enjoy making content for everything. I am an English teacher but also lead the 9th grade home room classes for my school, so much of my content is social/emotional lessons and/or skill building, along with English and Writing lessons.

Teaching style

I'm usually creative and very, very detailed. If you download any of my content, I really try to hone in on the skills I know my students have lacked previously. When it comes to writing, I try to make my lessons as concrete as possible so that students have scaffolding and can understand the skills piece by piece.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I did win Teacher of the Year at my school for the 2024/2025 school year, as voted by my colleagues.

My own education history

I kind of mentioned this above, but I was born and raised in Connecticut. I struggled to find a job there that fit, so I moved to Florida and have been at the same school there for three years (going on four). I have enjoyed it so far and have adjusted to the Florida state standards.

Additional biographical information

In my free time, I like to write and film Youtube videos. I haven't kept up with Youtube, but I have a teaching channel, and will reference some of it in my lessons, even some that I sell on here. It is The Mr. Phelps Show. You can access my channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@themr.phelpsshow5208
