Macromolecule SPOONS Game for AP Biology

Looking for a great way for students to practice identifying macromolecules and have fun? My AP Biology students loved playing Macromolecules SPOONS (renamed BEARS for my classes) (thanks to the AP Biology community on Facebook for the idea!). Content includes 58 images/phrases related to the four macromolecules, covalent bonds formed by dehydration synthesis (ester, glycosidic, peptide, and phosphodiester), functions, elements, directionality (5' --> 3'; N-terminus/C-terminus), and two wil

Experience

My name is Adriane and I am a biology and chemistry teacher. I have a very diverse teaching history having taught preschool, middle school, high school, community college, and at a four year-university (both undergraduate and masters-level courses). As a high school teacher, I have taught biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science.

Teaching style

Many students find science daunting and inaccessible. My teaching style promotes self-confidence in the sciences, makes science fun, and encourages exploration and questioning. I try to make science as fun and engaging as possible (not a hard feat given how amazing science is!)

My own education history

For my undergraduate education, I majored in biology and minored in chemistry and secondary education. I also have a PhD in Science Education. My dissertation focused on how students learn science more meaningfully through talk, debate, and authentic questioning in the classroom.
