About the store

Experience

I am a seventh-year teacher who has developed digital notes to use with my virtual and in-person students during this pandemic. I've taught both 7th and 8th grade Virginia math. As a younger teacher, I poll my students often in the different ways I teach something to see how they learn best.

Teaching style

I do not use a textbook in my teaching. I find it more beneficial to create and use my own resources from the curriculum given. Though Virginia standards are very cut and dry, I often go in-depth with how each concept will actually impact my students in everyday life. If a particular concept is most useful in construction, we talk about that. When covering tax/tip/discount we talk about how to solve by hand, but I also show them how to do it on various electronic devices. We discuss credit scores, credit cards, and finances when we talk about consumer applications so students understand how their first credit card, car, or adult purchase could impact them in real life.

My own education history

Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from The University of Virginia's College at Wise.

Additional biographical information

As a younger teacher, I feel I am well equipped to help my students relate math to our technology-centered world. Students pay more attention, and care more, when they know something will matter to them later on in life.
