Expertise: Physical Education | Strength & Conditioning | Athletic Periodization With over 30 years of personal weightlifting experience and 15 years dedicated to training elite student-athletes, I specialize in bridging the gap between high-level strength programming and the reality of the high school weight room. Currently serving as a Weights and Physical Education Instructor, I have spent the last decade-plus developing systems that prioritize both explosive power and "The Shield," a comprehensive approach to injury prevention and structural integrity. My programs are designed specifically for the unique challenges of school-based athletics: managing large groups, limited equipment, and the diverse needs of multi-sport athletes. Why My Curriculum? Battle-Tested: Every rep, set, and agility drill has been refined through years of daily application with high school football players, wrestlers, and general PE students. Periodized for Success: I provide clear roadmaps that transition athletes from foundational strength to peak explosive power. Turn-Key Excellence: As an educator, I know your time is valuable. My resources are designed to be "plug-and-play" using Google Slides and Canva, allowing you to focus on coaching, not formatting.

Experience

Teaching style

Teaching Style: Systems-Based Weight Room Management My teaching philosophy is built on Efficiency, Engagement, and "The Shield." I believe a weight room should run like a well-oiled machine, where the program does the heavy lifting of organization so the coach can focus on technical correction. The 30-Student Flow: My curricula are specifically designed for large-group logistics. I utilize "Station-Based Rotations" and "Contrast Pairing" to ensure that no student is standing idle. Every second in the 45-to-60-minute block is accounted for. Scalable Intensity: I teach using a "Floor-to-Ceiling" approach. Whether a student is a first-time lifter or a varsity senior, my programs provide clear progressions and regressions so every athlete is challenged safely. The "Shield" Mentality: Teaching isn't just about the PR (Personal Record); it’s about availability. My style emphasizes "The Shield"—building the neck, core, and posterior chain to ensure athletes stay on the field and off the training table. Digital Integration: I believe in "Coach-Friendly" tech. By using Google Slides and Canva-ready formats, I provide visual cues that students can follow independently, empowering them to take ownership of their own training blocks.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Awards & Professional Recognition My career has been defined by a commitment to student-athlete development, both in the weight room and in competition. I am honored to have been recognized by my peers, administration, and the state of Idaho for leadership and coaching excellence: East Idaho Fall Coach of the Year: Awarded for excellence in tactical leadership, program building, and student-athlete performance. IYSC "Gamechanger Coach" Award: Presented by the Idaho Youth Sports Commission to coaches who demonstrate a profound impact on the culture of youth sports and athlete mentorship. "Gem of the Month" (Burnet High School): A peer-nominated award recognizing excellence in the classroom, teaching innovation, and dedication to the school community. Beyond the trophies and titles, my proudest moments happen daily in the weight room. One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been developing the "Iron Roadmaps" for our multi-sport athletes. Seeing a student-athlete transition from a freshman who has never touched a barbell to a confident, explosive senior while remaining injury-free due to our "Shield" protocols is the ultimate "shining moment." I’ve had the privilege of "going to bat" for students who others might have overlooked, watching them transform into leaders through the discipline of a structured strength program. This curriculum isn't just about weight on the bar; it's about building the character and resilience that students carry with them long after they leave my weight room.

My own education history

Education & Academic Foundation My approach to strength and conditioning is grounded in a rigorous academic background. I believe that being a great coach starts with being a great student of human history, movement, and educational theory. Master of Education (MEd), Prescott College Focus: Curriculum Design and Instructional Leadership. This degree informs the structured, 12-week periodization and "Iron Roadmaps" I develop for my athletes. Bachelor of Science (BS) in History, University of Oregon Focus: Research and Analysis. My background in history allows me to analyze decades of strength and conditioning data to find the most effective, "battle-tested" methods for the modern weight room. Associate of Arts (AA) in General Education, Linn-Benton Community College Focus: Foundational studies and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Additional biographical information

A Legacy of Coaching in American Falls For the past four years, I have been deeply embedded in the American Falls community and school system. This tenure has allowed me to refine my "Iron Roadmaps" specialized athletic pathways designed specifically for the modern high schooler. Whether I am coaching on the Football field or on the Wrestling mat, my objective remains the same: building resilient, explosive athletes who can handle the physical demands of a full competitive season. This has led to a single season record for wins in a football season, multiple playoff wins, a wrestling duals state championship, as well as multiple individual state champions and scholarship college athletes. The "Coach of Coaches" Philosophy With 30 years under the bar and 15 years in the trenches of athletic departments, I’ve seen that the biggest challenge for coaches is the transition between sports. I specialize in creating Multi-Sport Periodization. I believe that a Football player's lifting cycle should seamlessly support their Wrestling or Track season without causing burnout or "over-training" plateaus. The "Shield" Standard My additional research and curriculum development focus heavily on Injury Prevention (The Shield). I am a firm believer that the best ability is "availability." My programs are designed to strengthen the neck, core, and posterior chain...the foundational "armor" every student-athlete needs to stay in the game and out of the training room.
