Experience

While fostering creative and critical thinking, teaching resources should also be relevant and useful to students' lives: this philosophy of education spills over into every resource I create. My experience in secondary English education began in international schools in South America. After returning to the States and becoming a homeschool mom, I soon found myself back in the classroom where I've been teaching for fifteen years while designing curriculum to my heart's content!

Teaching style

INDUCTIVE: providing specific examples encourages students to self-discover the underlying rule governing the concept which in turn increases recall and confidence in the content area. HANDS-ON: if there is a way to involve manipulatives, I do it, even in the high school classroom. LIVE-MODELED: writing and self-editing along with my students in the classroom helps them feel less intimidated about their own process. ECLECTIC: a creative lesson plan makes its own demands: I take advantage of the methods that deliver the best learning outcome for a given topic.
