About the store

Experience

I have been a been a Tennessee TVASS level 5 science teacher for the past 5 years. All of the lessons I post have been tested in my biology class and help my students score proficient on there Tennessee end of year assessment (EOC). They are all aligned to Tennessees State standards, an have proven to be very effective.

Teaching style

I am a pretty traditional teacher. I lecture my students by objective. I begin the class with a DO NOW to refresh over what we did the previous day, and then the students take a brief QUICK QUIZ over the Do now, which is over what we did the previous class. They take guided notes through out the class to follow along with me, and I give students the opportunity to do a guided practice in-between each objective. At the end of the lesson they take a brief EXIT TICKET over what they learned in class, and occasionally they will have a homework assignment to review previously covered standards. I believe in repetitions and spiraling to make sure my students retain all the information I teach and score proficient on their end of course exam.

My own education history

I have a Bachelors of Science in with a concentration in Biology from Belmont University. I have a Masters of Science in Biomolecular science from Lipscomb University. Along with teaching full time, I am a volunteer researcher at Vanderbilt University, and am currently conducing a cancer research study.

Additional biographical information

I include my research experiences and vast knowledge of the biological science in all of my lessons. I teach in a Title I, high need, school. Therefore, my students generally come to me behind grade level. However, I don't let that limit me in my lesson planning, I constatly challenge my students to recall previous information in my lessons, and learn advance vocabulary and concepts.
