Student will create boxes from graph paper. Their goal is to make a bog with the biggest volume possible. They will then determine an equation representing the volume of a box. They'll use a graphing calculator to determine the maximum volume and height of the box as well as the domain and range. at the end of the activity they will determine how many pieces of popcorn could fit in their box. the teacher will then give them popcorn to snack on. students will solve a system of inequalities to narrow down a "search area" then they will solve a system of equations to find the exact location of a missing object (candy)
Students will match the equation of a polynomial to its graph and certain attributes of the function such as end behavior, increasing/decreasing intervals, and turning points.
Students will work problems that are worth different amounts of points. They need to work enough points to get 50 total points. Students will factor polynomials with degree 3 and find the zeros of polynomial functions. The students will also write equations when given the zeros of the polynomial function.
The classic whodunit. I adapted this from a similar problem off the internet, but I made it much more user friendly. Students use exponential functions to solve a murder mystery.
Teacher posts the attached pages around the room along with blank sheets of paper, the students have to answer the question to the best of their ability then cover their answers. After everyone has work every problem, the answers are revealed and discussed.
Students must chose problems to complete. Each problem is worth a certain number of points and the total points must equal 50 points. allows students to take ownership of their work.
Student work problems to find the answer which is located on another problem page. The answer is accompanied by a piece of a secret message. In order to get the correct message, the students must work in the correct order.
students get cards which two sides. one side gives a description of a rational function. The students will begin by factoring their "i have" sides. one student will start by reading a "who has" side. The class will look through their cards to determine if their card fits the description. THey record whose card it was and then read the next "who has"
Students will get into groups. Each group will get one problem at at time. After solving the problem, the teacher will check the answer and then give the next problem. The group that finishes first wins.
Students write their own quadratic function then pair up and switch equations to find the inverse. The activity shows the relationship between quadratics and square roots as inverses of each other.
The attached file is a collection of QR codes. Students should download a free QR reader app to their phones. Teacher is suggested to post the QR codes around the classroom and the students will scan them to receive a review question.
