This vocabulary describes in detail 17 content words that are needed for all learners to access ions and isotope content. The vocabulary word includes a picture, a teacher generated definition and the definition of the word in Arabic. Vocabulary words included are: anion, atom, atomic mass, atomic number, cation, charged, electron, ion, isotope, mass number, negative, neutral, neutron, nucleus, positive, proton and valence electron.

This shape of words activity is one of the foundations of our high school science classrooms. This activity allows students to literally draw connections to words so they are able to cement their understanding of the new term and then use it in their scientific vocabulary.
