About the store

Experience

I've been teaching in Hawaii since 2003. I've taught 3rd and 4th grade and loved everyday of it! I've also taught English in Japan for a year. My Japanese students ranged in ages from 4 - 75 years old. It was an awesome experience!

Teaching style

Like most teachers, I believe teaching should be fun and interesting. No matter how planned out the lesson is, if it doesn't grasp student attention, it won't work. I use a range of techniques along with humor to get my students to learn and laugh at the same time. This motivates them to want to learn. Once a student makes the independent choice to want to learn, the sky's the limit.

Awards & shining teacher moments

The daily gains my students make matters more to me than any award. Let's celebrate them!

My own education history

I went to public school my whole life. I graduated from the University of Hawaii with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education. My favorite teacher was Mr. Ashburn. He was the craziest teacher I ever had and some of the things that came out of his mouth were ridiculous and shocking. I learned more from him than any other though. Thank you Mr. Ashburn!

Additional biographical information

I enjoy surfing, fishing, and sleeping on my days off. I love to travel and have been to Tahiti, Mexico, the mainland US, Alaska, Costa Rica, Japan, Indonesia, and all the outer islands of Hawaii. I have an awesome wife who makes me smile everyday and keeps me balanced. In a nutshell, I love my life! The teachers I've had and the choices I've made led me to where I am today. Good or bad, I don't regret one thing!
