This activity allows students to explore the effects that erosion has on land and the steps that are taken to protect from effects of erosion. It contains a predicting and inferencing activity to get students thinking about the possible causes of changes to a landscape. Then students read an article about how the Cape Hatteras lighthouse was moved because of erosion and answer several comprehension questions. Students then apply their knowledge to explain what is happening in similar image.

This is a handout where students can record their written comprehension to mClass or other reading comprehension stems. It allows students to write the title, the question they are answering and their response. I use these for homework each week. Students choose a text and have bookmarks with question stems from the individual mClass levels to choose from.

This is a quick activity for students to synthesize the knowledge they gain about the moon from the text. Students need to pick three items to put in the suitcase in order to survive on the moon. I had students cut a piece of construction paper to place over the suitcase part and tape on so that people must "open the suitcase" to find out.
