In my class, our morning routine is to make our lunch choice using their lunch cards. I use these pictures to show my students each morning what the two lunch choices are for the day. This homework packet can be used at the beginning of the year for kindergarten introduction to the UFLI Heart Words and a review for First Grade. Towards the middle of the year, the sentence writing sheets can be sent home for homework and the tracing sheets can be used for a literacy center or for morning work and early finishers. I created these posters after our first unit in Reader's Workshop! My kindergarteners are working hard on their stamina and on using reading strategies when they read in their book baggies! We created an anchor chart for the first 6 weeks of school on what good readers do, and these were the biggest "take aways" we came up with! This is a great thing I do in my class at the beginning of the year to get a good grasp of letters and letter sounds, and then it also helps towards the middle of the year with Blends, Digraphs, Heart words, etc. and by the end of the year it has already helped so much with reading and writing!
