Thanksgiving Play for ESL High Beginning or Elementary
This play follows the Pilgrims from Holland in mid-1620 to America to the first Thanksgiving in late 1621. It teaches the history and vocabulary of Thanksgiving in play format and has comprehension and vocabulary exercises at the end. Suitable for ESL students at any age with some grasp of present tenses and simple modals and an introduction to simple past tense. Play is mostly presented in simple present tense with narration in simple past. Recommended use: Introduce vocabulary and read through

Experience
I have taught every level and subject area of ESL at community colleges and adult schools for over 20 years.
Teaching style
I love a noisy classroom. I like to use games and skits to practice grammar points and vocabulary. It changes up the routine to keeps students engaged, and hopefully entertains them. I write jazz chants, skits, and poems for this purpose. These also help students with fluency and pronunciation and intonation. And they are fun and build community in the classroom. Currently, I am working on longer works for reader's theater productions.
Awards & shining teacher moments
I've always been an adjunct instructor at community colleges and universities and adult schools. Adjunct instructors do not receive honors and awards that I know of. We are paid by the hour and lucky to get health insurance. The big honor for an adjunct is getting hired.
My own education history
My own background is in math and anthropology (BA), linguistics (MA), and creative writing. I have studied writing with the poet Jack Grapes in Los Angeles. I have written two novels, which are soon due to be published.
Additional biographical information
I am currently running a reader's theater group at my local senior assisted living facility. I am adapting my own reader's theater scripts for the group, and it's fun. I am also publishing 2 completed novels very soon for Kindle.
