I have enjoyed 34 years in education, including 19 in the high school English classroom and three as a 6-12 ELA curriculum specialist for the third largest school district in North Carolina.
I have taught all levels of English 9, 10, 11, and 12; AP English Language and Composition; Newspaper Journalism; and Creative Writing. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I have served as Department Chair, SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) Accreditation Committee Chair, and Writing Lead Teacher. In my district role, I developed curriculum documents, developed a system-wide writing benchmark process, created and facilitated professional development for teachers and administrators, and coached middle and high school ELA teachers. In addition, I have served on the North Carolina Writing Advisory Committee, been a reader for the AP English Language and Composition exam, and scored the SAT writing component.
I have spent several summers teaching English as a Second Language in Europe and can speak basic Hungarian and French. In June of 2013, I left the classroom to raise our adopted son and devote more time to curriculum development and teacher support.
