This unit is an introduction to physics and more specifically forces and motion. Using the ever popular viral video challenge of the bottle flip students will investigate 5 forces in mini 1 lesson labs and will then apply those forces to a model they create of the bottle flip phenomenon. For the final project students will pick one thing to adapt or change about the bottle flip to make it more successful, using one of the forces as evidence to support their choice in modification. This is an introductory lesson on oceans. In this lesson you will cover salinity, how sand breaks down, and what makes up a beach. This lesson will include multiple hands on demonstrations as well as culminate in an interactive lab sorting through a "beach in a bucket". This lesson is designed with middle school in mind but could easily be adapted for younger students as well.
This is an exit slip for the first day of the bottle flip physics unit. It asks students to summarize what they learned today and what they still might be curious about.
