In this experiment, students will make observations as they test several solutions for conductivity. They will explore what types of compounds can become electrolytes, what determines electrolyte strength, and how electrolytes are involved in the conduction of electricity. Students will classify the solute in each solution as a strong electrolyte, a weak electrolyte, or a nonelectrolyte.

This is another version of an Electrolyte Lab that allows students to categorize various solutions as strong electrolytes, weak electrolytes, or nonelectrolytes. This also included guided hypothesis writing and additional conclusion questions.

In this lab, students will use indicators to test common chemicals and determine their pH levels. First, students will test the liquids with a pH testing strip, called “litmus” paper. This will tell if the substance is an acid or a base. Then, students will use pH paper that will tell the approximate pH of the solution depending on the color of the pH paper after it is exposed to the solution.

This powerpoint is meant to follow Tarbuck and Lutgens Earth - An Introduction to Physical Geology textbook. This powerpoint covers historical perspectives of geology, basics of geologic time, origin of the earth, and basic geologic terms.

These guided notes go through the periodic table trends of atomic radius, ionic radius, ionization energy, and electronegativity. This should be paired with a coloring activity for the periodic table to identify atomic number, metals, nonmetals, metalloids, valence electrons and other properties of the elements.

This is a hands-on, manipulative activity for students to practice creating Lewis Dot structures.

Students compare and discuss the progression of historic models of the atom from Thomsom, Rutherford, Bohr, and the Quantum model by filling in guided notes and then drawing the corresponding model of the atom.

Instead of having students turn in homework or warm ups each day, I can check for completion by stamping or giving a sticker at the beginning of class when the work is complete. Students then turn in the stamp sheet at the end of the week for a participation/completion grade.

This inquiry-based unit spans 13 days (flexible) and covers Evolution for Freshman Biology.

Students can use this graphic organizer to practice formula writing, electron dot formulas, bonding domains, electron pair geometry, and molecular structure.

Students select web-based activities based on their interests and complete enough activities to total 60 points. Sites may need to be updated individually - file is a word doc so you may edit.

Classes can use these safety scenarios to discuss the importance of lab safety and the safety rules. These scenarios can also be used as warm ups or assessment.
