Thermal Energy Inquiry Lab
This was designed for students to go from station to station (3) to learn about the 3 ways that heat transfers thru investigation and scaffolded so students can discover thru their senses and discussion with others. I divided up my class into 6 groups, 3 groups circled around 3 stations and the other 3 groups circled around the other 3 stations. Understanding Matter with Cloze Notes
This includes both the lesson on types of matter, activity and guided/cloze notes for interactive notebooks. Students LOVE snacks! (Am I wrong?) Of course, check for allergies first. I avoided peanuts and indulged them into preztels, goldfish, M & M's, sunflower seeds, cranberries, Cherrios, and Chex. For Homogeneous they only picked one and then when we did heterogeneous they added 2 more. I only allowed 1 person per group up to use a scooper to get the ingredients. One of my things is getting

Newton's Law's Lab Stations
Need a way for students to engage in hands on learning? Students will need to know Newton's 3 laws before doing these activities. They will work together and engage in discussions together. This follows the CER format loosely so they learn to write down their observations, make a claim and then state their reasoning based on evidence. Calculating Density - Why do some things sink and some float?
This simple lab can either be an explore activity in a 5E lesson, assessment lab on density, or as an engagement lesson. Students will learn how to: calculate density both using water displacement and the formula LxWxH;see how different substances stack according to their densities;how to use different tools to measure mass, volume and density.Any suggestions to improve please let me know!

Understanding Matter in our World
This includes an activity my students loved ... making their own snack and eating it! You do not have to do the Trail Mix Activity, but it really helps them engage and understand when they create their own examples and draw them. Included is your own editable copy (please let me know if it does not work) of the slides. There's also cloze notes that go with the slides.

Teaching style
It is my belief that the best way to learn is hands on and allow for mistakes. As Miss Frizzle says, "Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!" When a lesson provides memories, students are more likely to remember. My job as a teacher is to ensure safety as they learn or to facilitate.
I am working to create lessons built on using homesteading as a way for students of all ages to learn academics.
