I was a substitute teacher for six years. My first full-time employment was in 2nd grade. Unfortunately, I was rifted the following year but managed to get a fifth grade position at my same school. Now I am back in 2nd grade and loving it!!! :)
This is a student-led conference script to help your students make the most of their conferences. I have designed it for use in my 2nd grade classroom but it would work for 1st (with assistance) and 3rd grade as well.
This script includes pages on reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and conduct. In class, students may draw a picture of how each subject makes them feel and then answer the prompts on each of the subject's pages. When conference time comes, students will h

I created this reading response journal check sheet to hold my 2nd grade independent reading groups accountable for their silent reading. I have my students answer two (of 25) question/writing prompts per chapter. This sheet works best with works of fiction. I keep it in a two-pocket folder (along with each student's current novel and paper to write on).
Questions/Writing Prompts Include:
*What were your feelings after reading the first chapter of this
book?

This file includes 8 station posters (Buddy Reading, Computer, Research, Spelling, Poetry, Listening, Reading Games, Writing). Each poster provides a list of activities students may chose to do while at that station. I have also included a Research Thought Organizer sheet and Station Board Strips (may be cut out and used to organize students to their daily stations). Enjoy!!! :)
I designed this literature unit for small-group instruction with my advanced 2nd grade readers. It includes an About the Author page, a Book Walk, and common core aligned questions for each of the ten chapters. Types of questions include text-to-self, prediction, text-dependent questions, characterization, compare/contrast, vocabulary application, etc.
While created with 2nd grade standards in mind, this unit could easily be adapted for 3rd grade reading use.
About the Book
Title: Annie
This sheet allows students to keep track of the books and the minutes they have read. I use this to keep track of my student's minutes for the Pizza Hut Reading Awards Program.
This is a great activity for students to learn more about their peers during the first week of school. The information gathered on this sheet could later be graphed by the students.
