In this Word Document, I have taken the original Declaration of Independence and written it in a way that children will understand. The font can be modified or changed. I had my students each print one out and then we tea stained it to give it an old world look and feel. My students then signed the Declaration. After they made this declaration, they then wrote a letter to King George describing their unhappiness with his rule.

In this Interactive SMART Notebook file, Teachers will have a brief timeline of events that led up to and included the creation of the 13 colonies and how they eventually were forced into war with England. There are instructions on each slide to help teachers to navigate each slide. There are two quizzes at the end of the Notebook file (Slides 24-25) that are Flash based and are no longer usable in newer versions of Notebook software. I left them in in case you have an older version of the so
