Experience

The teaching journey is an unpredictable one. I started off as a physical education and psychology high school teacher but then developed a passion for teaching history and geography. This lead to employment as an Museum Educator for a number of years which directed me to engaging more with primary/elementary aged students. An opportunity to teach art at a small rural school when I moved to the country later in my teaching career. I've been far more stimulated and motivated about teaching visual arts to young students than any other subject matter. You’re never too young to start learning about and appreciating art.

Teaching style

Due to my foundation teaching experience as a sport teacher, my style of delivery is kinaesthetic. I love seeing students being active and expressive in the art classroom, but we also dedicate time to being quite and focussed. Its the best of the both worlds.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Received a MAGNA (Australian Museum Oscar) status in 2015 for a suite of education resources I developed for the Carnamah History Society and Museum and a second award for an education resource created for the State Library of Western Australia. This was a major thrill as a MAGNA is a national award that considers all of the initiatives of all museums, art galleries, heritage sites, cultural projects...etc, launched across an entire year in Australia. To receive two awards at this high level was an incredible honour (and a wonderful reward for 100s of hours dedicated to bringing the 'past to life' for teachers and students).

My own education history

Studied sport psychology many moons ago; created my own heritage education company 9 years ago, but my current passion is ART! Creating art education resources for young learners to engage with fine art is incredibly stimulating and motivating.

Additional biographical information

I LOVE ART! I'm involved in a great deal of community art projects and I write blog posts for art education home schooling platform www.arthistorykids.com In my spare time I love to visit art galleries and museums. Too much art is not enough!
