About the store

5 years at public schools, 3 years teaching at a non-profit. Almost all of these schools have been 80% FRL, high needs, low-income, or inner city schools. I have taught Drawing, Painting, Photography, Yearbook, Graphic Design, and Intro to Design/Art. I know ceramics, a bit of jewelry, and sculpture, bookmaking, printmaking.

Experience

Teaching style

Project based, some choice based learning. Recently my style has shifted towards more traditional lecture/rote-copy teaching. I will explicitly teach skills and ask my students to do the same. Later in the year students are allowed more freedom. Upper division courses are allowed more freedom. I stress projects and lessons that hone craft, technical skill, and process based knowledge. Everything I teach exposes them to multiple contemporary artists; but I do not stress art history, writing, or tradition as much as other teachers of my style will.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Students have won Scholastic art awards. I have received grant funds from donors choose and the Jean Lindsey foundation.
