This is a read-along/sing-along book that nicely accompanies Jack Hartmann's song "Learning Letter Sounds" from his "Shake, Rattle, 'n' Read" CD. The colorful, vivid pictures in this book match Jack Hartmann's lyrics exactly, as do the words ... so this is a great tool for all emergent readers in your class, but especially those visual and auditory learners! This book is also a wonderful addition to the Listening Center in your class, as well as any Literacy Centres! You could also use this book
This creatively packaged student booklet will allow students to demonstrate what they know about Canada. The booklet covers various topics including the names and location of provinces and territories, Canadian symbols, multiculturalism, etc. The unit also urges students to connect their knowledge about Canada with their literacy skills by providing them with a framework for writing Canadian poetry. Teachers can easily frontload their teaching using this student booklet/unit as a guide.
For this integrated Fine Arts/Social Studies lesson, students are asked to consider their family structure using the metaphor of a tree. After careful consideration of the provided criteria, students will create artistic representations of their own families. This outline can be applied to various art media (e.g. pastel, paint, etc.). Teachers may wish to ask students to follow-up this activity with writing about their artistic representations.
Through the lens of their five senses, students will record their thoughts about apples. This activity is best implemented as a follow-up to an experiential apple-eating activity, in which students discuss what apples look like, feel like, smell like, taste like, and sounds like (when they are being eaten).
