This math project allows students to create their own math board games to review concepts or focus on a certain skill. The project includes step by step instruction for students to create, design, and revise their games as well as a scoring guide. Students work in groups to create rules to their games, design the game board, and write math question cards and answers. It is a fun group project that can be done at any grade level with any math concepts.
The assessment focuses on physical and behavioral adaptation for survival of animals. Physical adaptations include camouflage and special body features and behavioral include hibernation, mimicry, and migration. Other key vocabulary: carnivore, omnivore, herbivore, producer, consumer.
10 matching vocabulary questions and 10 multiple choice
This activity provides students with scenarios where they have to identify which animal is the predator and which animal is the prey. Introduction to food chains and food webs.
This is a 20 questions scavenger hunt for students to learn about the solar system. They will visit the NASA Space site given at the top of the page and then explore and read about the sun, moon, planets and solar system to answer the 20 questions. I had students work in pairs and turned it into a scavenger hunt competition.

Astronomy, Computer Science - Technology, General Science
This assessment tests students knowledge of vocabulary related to food chains and animal adaptations (carnivore, herbivore, omnivore, predator, prey, camouflage, hibernation, migration etc.) Students also have to demonstrate knowledge of the difference between a physical and behavioral adaptation. Answer key included.
This assessment covers states of matter, physical properties of matter, phase changes in matter (physical vs. chemical changes). Assesses knowledge of solids, liquids and gasses and the properties of each state.
This lesson teaches students how to interpret the remainder to a division word problem. Students have to divide to find the correct quotient and then answer the question correctly by either rounding the answer up, dropping the remainder, using the remainder as the answer, or sharing the remainder as a fraction. There are 11 practice problems that can be used as a quiz or as classwork/homework as well as an answer key.
Students will sort animals by vertebrate categories by color code system. Mammals, Fish, Amphibians, Birds, Reptiles and Invertebrates. Can highlight and color code in a google doc or print and use markers. Keeps students busy and sharing their thinking with each other to hit language objectives.
This assessment can be used as a quiz or test on the stages of the water cycle. Students will show their knowledge of evaporation, precipitation, condensation and runoff. States of matter including changes from liquid to gas (water to water vapor) and gas to a liquid (condensation) are included in the assessment. A word bank is included for fill in the blank questions with water cycle vocabulary.
This hands on lesson combines the design process with measurement in math. Students are challenged to build the farthest flying paper airplane using only 1 piece of paper and 1 paper clip. Using the design process students draw, design, and test their models before the competition. Outside students are given 3 trial throws that are measured and averaged to declare the winner. Really easy to plan and fun for students. They record all their data on the chart.
In this project you will be creating two new animal species that need to adapt to survive. One animal will be prey that is skilled at avoiding enemies and the other will be a predator at the top of the food chain. You must chose an environment for these animals to live in and provide them with appropriate adaptations, both physical and behavioral, to help them survive in their new habitats.
Students will calculate the volume of an irregular figure with dimensions shown and then explain in writing the steps they took to find the correct volume.
This assessment includes 22 questions about the classes of invertebrates and their features. Matching Vocabulary, Multiple Choice, Fill in the Blank, and one Open Response Writing question assesses students knowledge of animals without backbones.
This math problem involves volume, critical thinking skills, and mathematical writing. An open-response style question where students apply their knowledge of volume to answer a real world problem. Students should be able to write a response that explains their thinking use mathematical language.
This assessment consists of 30 questions including matching, multiple choice, true and false, short answer and open response. It covers all aspects of magnetism/magnetic energy. Perfect to use as a summative assessment at the end of a unit or as a review of magnets.
Includes an open response question on collecting and organizing data using a tally chart and creating a bar graph. Another lesson focuses on interpreting data from a pictograph. A unit assessment on data includes questions bases on tally charts, line graphs, bar graphs, and pictographs. A great way to review and assess student's knowledge of interpreting data and graphing.
This exit ticket can be used as a formative assessment check in on exponents and powers of 10 place-value. A 3-2-1 bulls eye at the bottom makes it easy to identify students who understand the concept and those who need more instruction.
Included are 10 adding and subtracting Easter word problems (non-religious). Skills include reading word problems and adding and subtracting basic numbers through 10 and including appropriate labels. Great way to incorporate the fun of Easter into math for younger children.
