NF 4.5
When learning about decimal place value and relating that notation to fractions students can benefit from relating information to money. Most students in 4th grade know the value of coins and can understand that there are 100 cents in a dollar. By relating fractions with denominators of 10 and 100 to money students are able to make concrete connections which will deepen their understanding of fraction and decimal notation.
I have used these SMARTboard lessons in my own third grade classroom for two years with great results. The full lessons with student reproducibles can be found at engageny.org. This bundle is only Module 2 which covers time, measurement, rounding, addition, and subtraction.
Print these out as bookmark size for each student. They can use this to edit their stories and essays. This works for all grade levels and even includes an explanation of each letter in the acrostic.
After teaching guided reading for the last 4 years I have determined the parts of the lesson that I need to plan for and have created this template. I think it works best to print out this plan front and back and keep several copies in the GR binder. Then I hand write my GR plans.

In our classroom we do lots of hands-on projects and group work. We also do math and ELA centers. Sometimes we sneak centers into science and social studies if we are really feeling crazy!
