Preview of Arithmetic Sequences as Linear Functions

Arithmetic Sequences as Linear Functions

Created by
Audre Williams
Foldable Notes: After review of the recursive and explicit formulas of Arithmetic Sequences, students will learn how to write an Arithmetic Sequences as a Linear Function (f(x) = mx +b). An answer key is provided. Lesson Check: Given an Arithmetic Sequence, students will write a Linear Funciton to represent it. This is a check for understanding given after the notes. An answer key is provided.

Desmos Posters

Included in this resource is 4 posters that can be displayed around the room to remind students to use Desmos when solving problems in math class. In my Algebra course, I probably say "Type it into Desmos" 20 times every class. As this is the calculator used for state tests, SAT, and math AP Tests, students need to be familiarized with Desmos. I try to get my students to start every question with at least typing what can be typed into Desmos. While it might not always give them the answer, a lot

Arithmetic and Geometric Sequences (Recursive Formula Practice)

Created by
Audre Williams
Students are given the opportunity to work with the recursive formula in Arithmetic and Geometric Sequences. Students will find the common ratio or common difference from the recursive formula. Then, they will use this information and the first term (which is given in the problem) to use the explicit formula to find a given term. The recursive formula is not very useful to use but is a necessary topic in the standards. This resource gives students exposure to this formula.

Directions: Put student desks in groups of 4. Cut out each of the following cards and tape them to the corner of each student desk. Set a 60 seconds – 90 seconds timer. Students complete the problem on their student handout. Then they rotate to another desk in their group. At the end of 4 rotations, set a 2-minute timer where students in the group check each other’s answers and make any corrections if needed. Then, have students go to another group and repeat the process. There are 8 sets of 4,
