About the store
I created Ava Has Autism as a mom on a journey with my daughter, Ava who is autistic. I learned to support Ava's communication, emotional expression, sensory needs, and independence by designing practical tools that were simple, visual, and supportive for everyday life. What started as resources for home and therapy sessions has grown into a supportive space for families, teachers, speech therapists, and classrooms around the world. Each product is thoughtfully created with real-life use in mind- tested at home, in therapy, and at school- so that every child can feel confident, understood, and empowered to communicate in their own way.

Experience

I created Ava Has Autism as a mom on a journey with my daughter, Ava who is autistic. I learned to support Ava's communication, emotional expression, sensory needs, and independence by designing practical tools that were simple, visual, and supportive for everyday life. What started as resources for home and therapy sessions has grown into a supportive space for families, teachers, speech therapists, and classrooms around the world. Each product is thoughtfully created with real-life use in mind- tested at home, in therapy, and at school- so that every child can feel confident, understood, and empowered to communicate in their own way.

Teaching style

My teaching style is rooted in building independence, confidence, and capability. I believe children learn best when skills are broken down into clear, visual steps they can understand and practice at their own pace. I use calm, consistent routines and simple visuals to support communication, reduce overwhelm, and encourage success. Every resource I create is designed to help children do more for themselves, express their needs, and build on their strengths. The materials in my shop support growth through positive guidance and encourage independence one small win at a time.

My own education history

During college, while I was studying to become a teacher and working in a counseling center, I volunteered at a Special Olympics event. I was deeply moved by the joy, strength, and individuality of the children there, and from that moment on I knew I wanted to dedicate my career to special education. Over the years, I have worked in elementary, middle, and high school special education, supporting students with a wide range of needs and abilities. My experience includes working in resource classrooms, alternative educational settings, and behavior support programs, where I focused on meeting students where they are and helping them grow with confidence and dignity. After 15 years in the field, I shifted my focus to supporting my daughter, Ava, who was diagnosed with autism at the age of two and non-verbal, full-time—and from that journey, Ava Has Autism was created. My goal now is to share the same compassionate, structured, and empowering approach with other families, teachers, and students.
