Experience

Where research-informed teaching meets real band rooms With over 2 decades of experience teaching 5-12 instrumental music, Dr. Yoder is a band director, educator, and researcher interested in Music Performance Anxiety and mental health in student musicians and educators.

Teaching style

Servanthood leadership, student-led problem solving, and students' self-regulating their nervous systems are educational staples while exploring the human condition through music in Dr. Yoder's classrooms. Dr. Yoder uses game play strategies to engage students' creativity while examining music as detectives and investigators. Band students find joy in making mistakes, because it affords them an opportunity to learn. We celebrate each others' successes, big and small. Dr. Yoder believes that when students come together towards common goals, excellence will be achieved.

My own education history

Dr. Yoder researched Music Performance Anxiety in school band directors to determine the prevalence, manifestation, and associated factors. She now continues to present at conferences, and publish her findings, as well as how this research now contributes to her day-to-day teaching.
